Thunder Colic

Thunder coliced again last night. I was up just about every hour checking on him. I thought I was gonna have to take him to the ER at midnight, but luckily I didnt.

I gave him that shot about 8pm. Waited the 1 hour then checked on him. He still seemed too drugged up to me, so I waited another hour.

10pm: he didn’t seem 100%… me: “do I take him in, do I not take him in, oh God! What do I do?”

11pm: still didn’t seem 100% but getting better

midnight: me as I’m laying in bed: “Ok, if he isn’t almost 100%, I’m taking him in!” Luckily by now he has gotten better, still hasn’t pooped yet, but so much better now.

2:30am: We have poop! Poopy party!

4am: Thunder: “God Lord Mom, why do you keep coming out here in the middle of the night turning the lights on and waking everyone up? Seriously!”

7am: We have poop again!! Breakfast time and he is whinnying for me as usual.

What a night! Im exhausted LOL LOL

The others stood & slept by him all night cheering him on!

Stormy’s Horsenality LBI

Stormy

I’ve been researching Stormy’s horsenality because I’ve never worked with a horse like him. He doesn’t really care about anything, super laid back, believes in more whoa than go, and appears lazy. I have figured out he is a Left-Brain Introvert.

Here is what Pat Parelli says about these types of horses:
Left-Brain Introvert
“Welcome to the land of “Why should I? What’s in it for me?” This horse reads people like a book. He knows what you want and he’s not going to give it to you, unless you treat him right. Even though he appears stubborn or lazy, he’s not at all lazy in the mind! Reverse psychology is where it’s at, oh... and treats!”

Linda Parille:
“A right-brained introvert can be the perfect reining or dressage horse. He's naturally obedient and looking for leadership. He loves repetition and consistency and routine.
A left-brained introvert, by contrast, hates all that. He's easily bored, so the more you work him, if you're not making it fun for him, the more difficult he can become, but he's often fabulous on the trail.”

WOO HOO! Is all I have to say about him being FABULOUS on trail!!

Rocky Creek Park with Stormy & Breezy

Stormy drug Breezy & I to Rocky Creek Park in Crowley, only 10 minutes from the house. It turned out to be a beautiful day. There is no way a cart would fit on these trails nor would I want to go to this park in the spring or summer months because the grass was taller than my ponies! I can imagine the bugs would be very bad that time of year too. So I am glad we went during the winter!!

Horse Goals for the New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Instead of New Year’s Resolutions, Dave & I always create a “Goal Sheet.” We discuss the thing we want to do in the upcoming year and write it down. It gives us goals to work towards and it is fun when we get to cross things off our list. We only put reachable goals on the sheet, so we are successful in completing those goals. We have sections on finances, things to do to the house/yard, trips we want to take, horses, cars, & planes Oh MY!

My goals for the horses this year are:

*Finish up my van: get it wrapped, add a hie tie, add A/C & heat so I can camp in it

*Take Stormy on short overnight trips so we can work our way up to longer overnight trips

*Take Stormy to Palo Duro Canyon!! This is my biggest one for the year and the one I’m most excited about!! I have been planning it out lately and it will be a 5 day trip!… by myself!!…. well, me & Stormy

*Teach Thunder how to drive a cart over the summer

*Teach Breezy how to drive a cart in the fall, if he is ready…he is a wild child right now LOL LOL

*Take Breezy to some horse shows (just for fun, absolutely no pressure) and hope to WIN a participation ribbon LOL
